Goldfish swimmers are beginning to move independently through the water and build consistency with floating, kicking, breath control, and beginner freestyle skills.

swimmers who are just gaining independence in the water (already comfortable, but not yet able to support independent swim for more than a few seconds).

GOLDFISH 1s are:

  • comfortable fully submerging 1-2 seconds + familiar with blowing nose bubbles

  • able to perform a supported glide at least 3 ft in shallow water

  • not yet able to front or back float efficiently to support independent swim, but comfortable in each when supported

swimmers who are mostly independent in shallow water (should be able to make forward progress about 3ft). focus on approximation of legal freestyle stroke.

GOLDFISH 2s are:

  • able to submerge independently with nose bubbles for 2-3 seconds

  • able to perform independent glide at least 3 ft in shallow water

  • able to approximate a front stroke at least 6 feet in shallow water

  • comfortable maintaining back float for a 1-2s independently (or for longer with instructor support)
