Piranhas

Our experienced instructors work with our Piranha level swimmers to improve and fine-tune their freestyle stroke, as well as to introduce new swim strokes like back and breast. Piranhas work on refining the skills they know, while also having the opportunity to practice new skills like treading water, swim starts, and intro to diving. Piranhas are encouraged to explore their self-identified swim interests as instructors aim to support these swimmers to their own swim goals!

Piranha swimmers are already able to float and self-propel with kick independently. 3-5:1 swim instruction.
PIRANHA
1
This level is designed for swimmers new to learning their swim strokes. They have familiarity with freestyle and backstroke but are not yet able to sustain their stroke more than ½ a pool length.

PIRANHA 1s are:
-
Fully independent in shallow water
-
Able to independently swim any approximation of a stroke for ½ of a pool length (~12 yds)
-
Able to submerge independently with nose bubbles for 3-5 seconds
-
Comfortable floating on their back but may not yet be fully independent
In PIRANHA 1, swimmers will:
-
Reinforce freestyle fundamentals to increase efficiency and build swimmers’ endurance
-
Work on improving efficiency of breathing during freestyle with increased breath control and side breathing technique
-
Build towards continuous swim for an entire pool length (25 yds)
-
Build on elementary backstroke and back float skills to support independent back float, introduce backstroke fundamentals
PIRANHA
2
This level is designed for swimmers who can proficiently swim but are interested in building up efficiency in their swim stroke in order to gain entrance to swimming in deeper waters.
Common goals for the Piranha 2 level include:
-
passing their community pool swim test
-
getting ready for the swim team
-
building endurance to be even more independent in the pool

PIRANHA 2s are:
-
Confident and independent swimmers looking to refine their strokes and gain independence in deeper water
-
Able to swim any approximation of a stroke for the majority of a pool length (more than 15 yds)
-
Able to back float independently for at least a few seconds
In PIRANHA 2, swimmers will:
-
Fine tune their freestyle stroke to increase efficiency, legality, and endurance (building towards continuous swim for 25 yds with minimal fatigue)
-
Refine side breathing technique and breathing control
-
Build on backstroke fundamentals and work towards independent backstroke for ½ of a pool length
-
Be introduced to swim team terminology and practice drills
-
Be introduced to breaststroke and treading fundamentals
-
Private, Semi-Private and Groups lessons
-
Piranha group lessons are limited to 6 swimmers/lesson
